The Ventures store at Seattle’s Pike Place Market often invites me to come demonstrate my eye-boggling optical illusion art & science kits. For customers to see Morph-O-Scopes secret images, their correct viewing angle is essential. Since kids and parents are different heights I raise or lower my demos to give everyone an optimal viewing fun experience. (Love hearing, “Wow! Cool!  I’ve never seen that before!”)

I learned recently that one’s angle of vision is also being used to deliver an anti child abuse message and to provide abused children with another way to reach out for help. A Spanish organization called the Aid to Children and Adolescents at Risk Foundation, ANAR, created a lenticular display that shows – at the same time – one message to adults and a different message to children. From the adult’s angle of vision (over 4’5″ tall), one sees the sad face of a boy with the message, “Sometimes, child abuse is visible only to the child suffering it.” From the child’s angle of vision bruises become visible on the boy’s face and a different message appears, “If someone hurts you, phone us and we’ll help you.” with ANAR’s phone number.
